IST Global technology provides solutions for numerous challenging industrial waste streams. It has proven particularly effective in removing mercury and selenium, which are prevalent in wastewaters from smelting and coal-burning power generation.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently published a notice of proposed rulemaking (40 CFR Part 423: "Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Standards for the Steam Electric Power Generating Point Source Category") aimed at reducing toxic metals and other pollutants in discharges to surface waters from power plants. The proposed rules set numerical limits for various contaminants, including selenium and mercury, which traditional treatment technologies struggle to address. These guidelines impose strict heavy metal/metalloid restrictions on wastewater from flue gas desulfurization (FGD) processes, which many coal-fired power plants employ. IST Global technology is an ideal solution for meeting these stringent requirements.IST Global's technology effectively reduces components in FGD wastewater to below proposed guidelines, including soluble mercury species and selenates. The MST™ process produces high-quality polished brine often at a lower cost than traditional methods.Key indicators of water quality in shale and tight oil fields using hydraulic fracturing or other unconventional production methods include total suspended solids, oil concentration, iron content, and bacterial levels. Contaminants can lead to scaling, obstructions, or damage to well structures, thereby impeding oil extraction. Moreover, iron and organic compounds feed bacteria, which may result in growths that block and contaminate formations. The target limits for total suspended solids and bacteria in water intended for fracturing are generally below the thresholds achievable by conventional techniques.

IST Global is constantly pursuing opportunities to demonstrate MST performance through field trials and treatability studies. We operate a continuous pilot process at our Application Development Laboratory (ADL)
and can provide equipment for field trial units for offsite locations.
IST Global performs treatability studies at its ADL facility on an ongoing basis. Treatability studies are performed on commercial scale, continuous flow equipment. Commercial scale studies can be performed on volumes ranging from as little as 100 gallons to several thousand gallons of a wastewater sample. In many cases, cursory treatment potential can be evaluated using a synthesized surrogate wastewater to provide a go/no-go determination prior to transporting an actual wastewater sample. Data collected during treatability studies are used to determine treatment efficacy, operating expenses, and commercial system requirements and costs.
COMMERCIAL SOLUTIONS
IST Global's standard commercial product concept is a system consisting of MST™ cell arrays in modular skids or containers. Multiple units operate together in parallel to meet individual volume requirements. These modules can be relocated to meet changing geographic and logistical needs. IST Global can also provide custom-designed commercial systems for client-specific requirements, including trailered mobile units or integration into an existing process/facility.

This Sodium Hypochlorite solution with neutral pH is safe for use in municipal water supplies, storage tanks, agricultural lines, swimming pools, water wells, and more.
It is non-hazardous and adheres to NSF Standard 60. The product effectively controls or eliminates bacterial biomineralized scales.
The RES Activation process hinders biomineralization. Bacteria typically utilize minerals to create protective calcium layers that shield them from oxidants. However, the activation releases a signal that obstructs the calcification, not influencing pH or promoting corrosion. Consequently, microbes become vulnerable to oxidation, allowing the water to maintain elevated chlorination levels and prevent further calcification. Importantly, microbes cannot develop resistance to this RES-activated Sodium Hypochlorite.
RES, or resonant energy solution, has approval under NSF60 and is indispensable for water systems worldwide.
When RES comes into contact with bacteria, it activates and disrupts 'quorum sensing,' which impairs bacterial communication and halts colony formation.
